Brian Funk started in the transit industry driving city buses for CyRide in Ames, Iowa during the late-90’s while attending Iowa State University. This part-time college job to make ends meet became a passion when his mentor at CyRide opened Brian’s eyes to the role that transit plays in cities large and small.
A Twin Cities native, Brian returned to the Minneapolis-St. Paul after graduating with a BS in Transportation and Logistics Management from ISU and joined the team at Metro Transit in 2002. His first role was as a Transit Control Center supervisor, controlling the operations of a 24/7 system. Over the last 18 years, he’s held a variety of positions in management including his current role as Deputy Chief Operations Officer for Bus.
In this role, Brian and his team are responsible for the operations of Metro Transit’s 920-bus fleet across 130 routes in the Twin Cities. Brian is a proud member of the 2019 Class of Leadership APTA, the best class ever.
